Getting It Booked In
We run out of West Palm Beach, about 8 miles from Greenacres, so a call here goes on the truck route like any other stop in the service area. There's no branch office in Greenacres and we're not going to pretend there is - the job starts with a call, we scope what's broken over the phone as best we can, and the truck comes from West Palm Beach with spring stock already loaded. Give us the door size, whether it's one spring or two, and whether the door is currently stuck open or stuck shut - that last part changes what we bring. A door stuck shut with a broken torsion spring is a different setup problem than a door that's open and can't be pulled down safely, and we'd rather know before the truck leaves than after.
How It Shows Up
Greenacres' housing stock runs newer than a lot of the broader service area - the local median build year is 1987, compared to the 1978 median across the wider 1965-2021 range we cover. That means most doors here are on original or first-replacement torsion hardware installed in the late 80s through the 90s, not the older extension-spring setups you'll find on the oldest 1960s stock elsewhere in the area. Torsion springs don't fail because a house is old - they fail because they've done their cycles, and a 30-to-35-year-old spring has usually done plenty. The classic sign is a door that won't budge, or one that slams down fast instead of lowering under control - that's the spring, not the opener, even though the opener usually gets blamed first. You'll also hear it: a loud bang in the garage, often mistaken for something falling, is almost always a torsion spring letting go.
How Long It Takes
A straightforward spring swap, one spring or two, on a standard double door is usually a same-visit job once the truck's on site - the work itself doesn't take long. What adds time is sourcing the right spring if the door's an uncommon size or weight, which happens more on custom or insulated doors than on the standard builder-grade doors common to 1980s construction here. We don't carry every spring size on every truck, so if your door's outside the common range, we'll tell you that up front rather than promise a fix we can't deliver that day.
Parts We Carry
We stock standard torsion springs sized for the door weights common to Greenacres' 1980s-and-later housing stock - single-spring setups for lighter doors, dual-spring for heavier insulated ones. We also carry matching cable, drums, and bearing plates, since those often need attention when a spring goes. What we don't keep on hand is every oddball spring for a custom or imported door - those get special-ordered, and we'll say so rather than string you along. If your door's a standard size, there's a good chance we're driving away with the job done.
